Timothy J. Clark Watercolors
Due to popular demand, the Laguna Art Museum has extended its showing of watercolors by skilled artist Timothy J. Clark.
The exhibition comprises a selection of 24 watercolors, plus a display of sketchbooks in the genres of landscape, still life, and figural work.
The exhibition was curated by Janet Blake, Curator of Early California Art at the Laguna Art Museum and an ardent admirer of Clark. Blake states, “Clark’s watercolors are exquisitely rendered and infused with color and light. He combines the best of both styles of American watercolor painting — the expressive approach of the California school and the technical virtuosity of traditional watercolor in the vein of John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer.”
“Repose,” a moving painting executed in a cool and harmonious palette, shows Clark’s facility with figures and evocative brushwork, while “Richard Smart’s Carved Italian Table” demonstrates an affinity for intricate details and the skilled draftsmanship necessary to render them effectively.
Timothy J. Clark (b. 1950) is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, the Chouinard Institute, and California State University, Long Beach. He has achieved success as both an artist and a teacher of watercolor. He is a faculty member of the Art Students League in New York and has twice been named to Watercolor magazine’s “20 Great Teachers in America” (2006, 2009).
Timothy J. Clark at the Laguna Art Museum is on view through February 17 on the museum’s upper level. For more information visit lagunaartmuseum.org.
